NFL Week 6 Picks: Best Bets vs. The Spread

Hi! Do you enjoy football? How about winning money? If you answered yes to either or both of those questions, the following is in your wheelhouse. Here are the Smarter picks for Week 6 of the NFL season. These are against the spread, and the spreads and percentages are courtesy of Pregame.com.

Season Record: 7-8

San Francisco 49ers (+9) over BUFFALO BILLS

This line is unbelievable. The Bills were on the cusp of complete meltdown after two weeks, with Rex Ryan’s odds of being the first coach fired spiking. Now, they are nine-point favorites without their top WR Sammy Watkins on the field? No. There are clear angles for the Bills: they have a high-performing RB in LeSean McCoy who will be up against a 49ers D that’s without Navorro Bowman. The Bills are home, and momentum is on their side.

The 49ers, however, have ditched Blaine Gabbert. They have arguably the most mobile QB in the game now who is taking control of Chip Kelly’s offense. He’s also playing for a future contract. If you want to moneyline Buffalo be my guest, but please take the points here.

WASHINGTON REDSKINS (+3) over Philadelphia Eagles

So we’re going to act like Philly didn’t lose to the Lions on the road last week? I get it that we all love Carson Wentz, but he’s a mortal man, and a rookie quarterback. NFC East divisional games are almost always slugfests, and the Redskins have been one of the most disrespected teams in the NFL by Vegas oddsmakers. They’re quickly becoming one of my favorite recommendations because they’re good – and explosive – enough to keep games close. Assuming the ‘Skins got three points for being the home team, I don’t understand how the Eagles are six points better. I like Washington, and they’re not a bad pick outright.

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (-9) over Cincinnati Bengals

Having been less than stellar over the first few weeks, I turn to a rock steady team to give me a boost. New England is the best team in football, they’re home, and they’re up against a Bengals team that I do not think is good. Cincinnati burning me last week is something I will rememeber. This offense is completely based on Andy Dalton playing pitch and catch with A.J. Green, and one-dimensional teams get slaughtered by Bill Belichick. Defensively, they are overrated, and the Patriots’ offense is downright scary. I might stay away if this spread hit double-digits, but at nine points I actually believe this is still a steal.
